History: The Colling family had the original Crown Grant to their land dated 1821 giving them 2,000 acres of Anglican Clergy Reserve land. There were four brothers and two sisters who came out from Weardale, Durham County, England in 1820. In 1830 the northeast corner of Lot 5 Concession 3 was donated for a church on this property. The first church, a frame structure, was built in 1833 and was known as Colling's Church. The name was changed in 1855 to Lowville Wesleyan Methodist.
The present brick church was built about l873 and was renamed to Lowville United Church at Union of 1925.
Lowville was on Nelson Circuit, Milton Circuit and Lowville Circuit which was begun in 1871. In 1889 it became the Lowville-Zimmerman Circuit. Zimmerman closed in 1975 with the congregation amalgamating with Lowville.
