The Halton-Peel Branch of the OGS was formed on 27 November 1974.
We assist genealogists with family roots in Halton and Peel Regions (formerly Counties).
Our membership of over 400 have access to Monthly Meetings, our Newsletter, and both the OGS Members Resources and our Branch's Members-Only web site which contain on-line research data and past newsletters.
Publications pertaining to genealogy in Halton and Peel can be obtained at our meetings or through mail order.
Cemeteries:
An Index of Cemeteries is available, and links to pages about each along with their historical lot location, current address, GPS (global positioning system) coordinates and directional map with zoomable satellite view, are being added daily.
Cemetery Transcriptions is an on-going project to record the cemeteries in both regions.
To date, 208 cemeteries have been located of which 139 have been published.

Transcribing gravestones has become a "do at home" project, using photos and your own computer.
More volunteers are needed for this. Contact Dorothy Kew for
further details.
Cemetery Surname Searches are available, and links to cemetery information are a "work in progress" via this same page.
The Branch is currently in the process of gathering information on
Places of Worship in both regions and this information is being added to this web site.
Interactive Township maps for
Halton and Peel
have links being added, and these will provide much more information as we increase the content of this web site.

Ongoing Projects:
Strays – individuals found in a record (other than an unpublished family history) in an area other than where they were born.
Settlers Sheets – members are requested to complete an interest sheet for each of their ancestors in Halton and Peel Counties. These will be used to make contact with others researching the same individuals.
1851 Census – an index is being complied of every name in the 1851 census for the counties of Halton and Peel.
Compiling Methodist Vital Statistics – a joint venture with Toronto Branch and the United Church Achives.
The Harry Grenville Duff Award – Presented annually to a member of the Halton-Peel Branch who has made significant contributions to the genealogical and historical work of the Society.
